Lulu's in the Fluff giveaway!!

It's impossible not to love diaper fluff, right? Well, let me tell you, there was a time when I wasn't too happy with my stash. Why? One word.........ammonia.

This normal everyday word can cause most mom's hearts to sink and most dad's to run from the room with t
ears in their eyes, literally. About 2months ago, I was met with the most unbearable, hit you like a brick wall, stank when I went into my daughter's room one morning. And the rash! Oh the rash! My poor baby! Nothing tears at your heart more than when your 20 month old whimpers the words, "Ouchie, mama, ouchie!" through tear stained cheeks as she tries to waddle across her crib without causing any more pain to herself. Ugh! :(

I felt horrible. I had been washing those diapers with diaper safe detergent, per the directions. What more was I supposed to do? What more CAN I do? You better believe I took every diaper we owned, threw them in the wash and rinsed, and rinsed, and rinsed! I RLRed the diapers (which, by the way, is nothing more than washing soda that can be purchased for about $3 per box, not the $2 per packet you pay for RLR), soaked, boiled, you name it, and NOTHING got rid of the ammonia.

Now I was on a mission to find the best diaper detergent I could find. I read reviews, visited Facebook pages, searched websites, and settled on trying two detergents: Rockin Green Hard Rock and a newcomer, Lulu's in the Fluff. I contacted both ladies with my problem and both responded quickly saying their detergent could handle my hard water, HE machine, ammonia problem. YAY!! I ordered 4 samples of RnG and was sent a full size bag of Lulu's in the Fluff to try. Thanks Lulu!

Now, I thought to myself, "How am I going to know which detergent works?" Answer? Divide the diapers in half and keep them separate over the course of a few weeks to see which detergent works for the long haul. So I soaked both loads, washed both loads, and rinsed the crud out of both loads. Immediately there was a change is both sets of diapers. In the end, though, both groups of diapers needed 3 soaks and rinsing sessions to remove all the ammonia. I was happy!!! I had clean diapers!!! Now I could put my daughter back in cloth and feel safe knowing she would not wake up rashy again. :D

After about one week, however, I noticed the smell of ammonia creeping back again in the RnG group. Lulu's was still going strong. I thought, "Okay, do I really want to mess with soaking them again and adjusting the amount of detergent when I have something else that works? No thanks!" And you know what? 5 weeks later, Lulu's is STILL going strong! I could not be happier!!

Here's the kicker, I was using 1TB of RnG in the wash, per directions for $.23 per load. (with $5 shipping included)
I use 2 TEASPOONS of Lulu's per wash for $.12 per load. (with $5 shipping included)
If I used 1TB of Lulu's per wash if would be $.18 per load. (with $5 shipping included)
(Prices are for the Hard Water version of each detergent)

If you use RnG and it works for you, great! And, in all fairness, I was using Hard Rock 1.0 and I know they have a 2.0 out now, so maybe that would work for me, but why mess with something that ain't broken?

I know people like pictures, but honestly, since I had an ammonia problem and not a build up problem, nothing came out of my diapers (that could be seen), so they wouldn't be very interesting. So, here are pictures of my cutie pie kiddos instead, enjoy!

Now, HOW do you and WHAT do you win? Well, thanks to the gracious Lulu, 1 lucky winner will be sent a full size bag of Lulu's in the Fluff in their choice of Naked Booty (unscented) and Hard Water (unscented)! That's enough to do at least 45/90 loads; plenty for you to glamorize your stash!

Lulu's is:

  • Dye free
  • Comes in several Glamorous "booty" scents - including Naked (for those with sensitivity to fragrance)
  • No fillers
  • No enzymes or optical brighteners
  • Phosphate free
  • Great for sensitive skin

  157. Posted about your giveaway here (since I don't have a personal blog...I share one with my family; but I figured this forum gets much more traffic than my family blog!):

  158. I must confess that I have not started CD'ing yet (baby still in-utero)...but from what I have heard from CD'ing friends, hanging the diapers in the sun is a great way to get rid of smells, bacteria, and stains!

  165. My best laundry tip is to let your dipes soak at least 60-90 minutes every time you wash. And of course use PureBebe dryer balls to cut down dry time! :)

  167. I hope that Lulu's will be able to get the stinkies out of our cloth diapers without having to waste hours on Rockin a Soak, taking up our bathtub, or washing with dawn and rinsing 100 times to get the bubbles out, or boiling in a stock pot on the stove. I have tried everything and still smelly! Sooo hoping I win!!

  168. My best CD laundry tip would have to be to hang your diapers in the sun to remove stains. I have seen some big spots that I thought were on for good come right out after a few hours on the clothesline. Saves on using the dryer a ton too :)

  178. My best diaper laundry tip is to utilize your clothesline! The dryer destroys fibers, so use it as little as possible.
